The best online divorce service in New Jersey — chosen honestly
We make one of these, so read this as a participant's guide, not a neutral review. What we can do is name the criteria before the contestants, apply them to ourselves as hard as to anyone, and tell you who should not use any online service at all.
First: who should not use any of us
- Anyone who does not actually agree with their spouse on everything. That is a mediator or a lawyer, and it is most people who think they agree until the second conversation.
- Anyone with a house, a pension or a business to divide, unless a lawyer drafts that piece.
- Anyone in a relationship with fear, coercion or a serious power imbalance. Self-serve depends on two equals; call 1-800-572-7233 instead.
- Anyone whose spouse may be in the military, cannot be found, or is not going to participate.
The seven things that matter
- New Jersey's actual forms. The Judiciary's own forms — CN 10486, CN 10889, CN 12620 — are required, and they change. A service that drafts everything from scratch, or uses a generic 'New Jersey package', leaves you to find and fill the official ones yourself.
- Two spouses, one case. An uncontested divorce has two people who each swear to their own documents. A single questionnaire that one person fills in for both is faster to sell and harder to file correctly.
- What happens after the download. Filing is the middle of the process, not the end. Service, the 35-day window, the judgment — a service that stops at the zip leaves the hardest months to you.
- Seeing the work first. You are about to sign court certifications. You should be able to read a complete, finished example before paying — not screenshots, the documents.
- Honest pricing. One payment, per couple, stated before you create an account. Watch for renewals: at least one national service auto-renews monthly after 30 days.
- Where advice starts. No document service can give legal advice. The good ones say so, stop at the line, and hand you to a real New Jersey lawyer for the piece that needs one — rather than letting software pretend.
- Spanish. A meaningful share of New Jersey couples want the process in Spanish. A toggle on the interview is the minimum; a service with no Spanish at all is not for them.
