Stage 3 — Your agreement
What you two already decided, written down and signed. A NJ attorney can review it before you sign — that door is built in.
Stage 4 — Judgment by mail
Each of you signs one certification asking the judge to finish it on the papers (Directive #01-25). The signed judgment arrives in the mail.

If you or your spouse live in Paterson, Clifton, Passaic, or Wayne — or anywhere else in Passaic County — this is your court. New Jersey asks that one of you has lived in the state for at least 12 months before filing.
